Postby dharmasmom » May 24th, 2006, 5:18 pm

We are so very close to having these dogs safe forever!!!

Please sign the petition that can be found at this link. All signatures and comments will be passed on to Judge Messina and Elena (JPAS) the day before the hearing.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. To the many who have stepped up to the plate for these boys (and a girl!), I have immense respect and love for you all, and as long as I live I will be thankful to know each of you. To those who have supported us through this - the same goes....thank you for understanding why this needed to happen.

I have signed and left comments. Thank you so much for helping these dogs, they truely deserve more than they have gotten so far. They are in my prayers.
Pit Bulls know they are THE face of extinction. All that remains is where they make their final stand. Say NO to BSL!

PLEASE PASS ON AND CROSSPOST WIDELY

Lots of good news!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
JUNE 8th
Case AS2006-012 (this was the case number for Messina's court)
Today's hearing was "administrative".
All our information was submitted. ACO's were present and submitted their reports - apparently they'd been to Mr. Davis' house 3 times, one time was to get the second dog we had found (white / brindle patches w/ the doubled chain) and euthanize him at Mr. Davis' request, as he was "too aggressive for the owner to handle".
Judge Messina reviewed evidence, looked at the pics and alond with the Parish Attorney, informed Mr. Davis that he was sending the case to the DA for criminal prosecution. The DA will decide, based on evidence, as to whether to prosecute or not. The dogs will not be released until this is resolved.
Mr. Davis will be charged on 3 counts of cruelty under state law, not just Parish Ordinance if the DA decides to move forward. If not, the case will return to Judge Messina for decision.
Elena has agreed with getting Phoenix to SAF for treatment!
JUNE 10
I spoke w/ Anne at SAF and, per Anne's typical wonderful response..."Of COURSE we'll take him". I love Anne Bell. Anyway, going to find out if Phoenix has had any shots at all, and if not, whether JPAS can give him some before we move him to SAF. There, they'll get him healthy and begin HW treatment.
Check the Blog for updates on when we get him to SAF!!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've put up a website for updates: http://www.geocities.com/unchainingtheavondalepits/

For whatever reason, geocities makes you allow popups to see the Blog "Updates" link.

If you would like to help with costs of his medical treatment (which, we're sure will be staggering) you can:

Send money directly to Southern Animal Foundation
Southern Animal Foundation

(504) 671-8235

****Please make sure you note on your check or a note that says the donation is for Phoenix / Avondale"****

OR

Purchase an "Unchaining the Avondale Pits" t-shirt.
Brenda Shoss (Kinship Circle) has kindly donated the use of her "With My Eyes" poem for the back of the shirt. Phoenix's "chained" picture with "Fighting For Their Lives, Unchaining the Avondale Pits" text, is on the front.

All proceeds from sales will go directly to medical treatment with Southern Animal Foundation & transport to Villalobos Rescue for Phoenix, a formerly chained & abused dog from Avondale.

OR

You can make a donation through PayPal to me ( thaleia@triad.rr.com ) and I will send checks to Anne

My thanks, love and respect again, to every single one of you who continue to fight this fight for these beautiful creatures

5 months later and I can't believe he's the same dog. And, we can
now tell that he most definitely has shepherd in him. Amazing what
emaciation hides.

Phoenix:

Spice (one of the ones we didn't know about):

Updated Puppy Pics (of the Female we didn't know about):

Know that every single thing that we do to fight for these dogs makes
SUCH an incredible difference.

Fighting For Their Lives…..Unchaining the Avondale Pits

PLEASE CROSSPOST FAR AND WIDE!!!!!!!

We finally have a criminal court date!

9 a.m. on September 27th. Court will be held at 2nd Parish Court, Division B

If you can attend, please do. Case name will be against Davis.

Original Pictures:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y37/me ... haunt2.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y37/me ... haunt4.jpg

(Mr. Woo, the brindle dog, was put down before we could get him out. Owner stated he was "too aggressive to handle". Light a candle for him, please)

Currently:

Phoenix is doing beautifully and is still at SAF getting treatment.

Before and After Pics: http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=z3a ... &y=-o6vlke

Spice (white pitty) is also doing well, but is still at JPAS

Pics: http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=z3a ... 0&y=mfkkby

Mrs. Phoenix + pups are doing well and recovering from some parasites, also still at JPAS. There are 5 pups left from the 11 pup litter.

Original Pic of her: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y37/me ... manIII.jpg

Pics: http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=z3a ... 0&y=3obkry

As a recap of their story……We were doing a reunion (that went horribly wrong) and found these chained dogs next door. Not just chains….logging chains….you guys know what I mean. We (Anne Bell) contacted JPAS, Bert Smith sent an ACO out. They gave the guy a week to correct all the infractions. Apparently no one went back. I called weekly for almost 3 months to HSLA and JPAS trying to get someone to listen / respond. No one did. Finally, I posted their plight and the pics I had on the Dogs Deserve Better Yahoo! Group. That was on a Monday. Thanks to many voices, especially those in LA who had the right contacts, the dogs were finally seized that Thursday. A huge heartfelt thank you to Everyone who championed this cause, a special squeeze to Lise, Rebecca, Rene and Christine for being so instrumental in getting those wheels moving down there!!! And, of course, a GIGANTIC thank you to SAF and their staff.

Since then, Phoenix has been with SAF receiving HW treatment and the other 2 dogs + pups have stayed at JPAS.

I know we're all strapped, but I'm begging for help at this point.

I had planned to contribute a considerable amount toward this, but since then, the tendons in my dog's knee blew out and well, I'm broke now and can't cover as much of this as I had planned to.

Phoenix and Spice will go to Villalobos as soon as court is over. I need to find placement for Mrs. Phoenix and her pups. I have exhausted what seems like every possible place I could contact, and everyone is "full". Villalobos has offered placement for her in case nothing else can be secured, but, they are also quite full being the only Pit Rescue for the L.A. area. I have emailed everyplace I can find to try for placement for her + pups, but, again, everyone is full.

So, what we need (I'm begging):

Donations to fly to dogs out to CA (total cost should be around $6-$800)
Donations to cover Phoenix's vet costs (total cost should be around $4-500)
Ideas / Networking to see if we can find a wonderful place for Mrs & pups.

All donations can be sent to me through Pay Pal: thaleia@triad.rr.com

What we've raised so far: $25 paypal; $100 donation from t-shirts; $30 donation to SAF. We need a lot more to help get these furbabies on their way!

Once the court decision comes through and the dogs are released I will be setting up air transport (if it's cool enough now) and coordinating with Elena and Anne to get the other dogs over for shots and Health Certificates.

Please, if you can send something to help these animals get to a place where they will continue to live free of chains, know love, know play and be able to use their minds…..it would be much appreciated!

Peace ~
