Breed guesses?

**crossposted** from a friend on another board...

<< Any breed guesses on this guy? He's currently at shelter in NJ. He was sent to me because someone thought he was a shar pei. He may be a shar pei mix because his muzzle looks very shar pei and he weighs about 43 lbs, but shar pei coats are never brindle and he doesn't have the shar pei ears. I was thinking that he may be a mastiff mix (not sure of his age or whether he is full grown at 43 lbs). The brindle could also be a pit bull or boxer, but he doesn't look like either one to me >> ... /ry%3D400/ ... /ry%3D400/ ... /ry%3D400/

Wow, the front part of his face and his muzzle look very much like a shar pei to me. My guess would be a shar pei mix

Definately Shar Pei.....could be mixed with anything brindle really. We all know how diverse they can end up! Possibly bully, plot hound, mastiff, etc. But definately shar pei. Can't miss that! Neos can be brindle but very very large...! How does the coat feel? They have a different texture too, the shar pei. Their coat is more prickly, I know b/c as a vet tech I react to shar pei fur, gives me hives....
