Yellow Lab Needs a New Home

Postby BullyLady » August 26th, 2008, 8:50 pm

Soo..... again with my sister in law, she is ridding herself of pets. She
also has a yellow lab who I *believe* is about three years old. Bailey
lives a rather meager existance, she is a normal hyperactive lab with
absolutely NO obedience training at all. She has never been allowed in
the house, so when ever she gets into the house she goes bananas and
gets a serious case of the zoomies. She is almost never allowed any inter-
action with people so she goes bannas around people, too. She lives in a
5x10 chain link kennel outside, and when it's too cold or she barks too much
she comes into her airline crate at the back of the house in the laundry
room. Once a week, usually on Sundays she gets a 45 min to an hour walk,
and that is pretty much Bailey's life.

There is nothing wrong with her physically, she had parvo when she was young
so she is undersized. Really she just needs someone who will love her
for what she is: A dog who is excited about life and wants to be a part
of someone's family. The way that this dog lives has long been a point of
contention with me, I feel like it's borderline abusive. I want her to go somewhere
where she can get some basic training and live the good life as a house pet.
I am TOTALLY convinced that once she gets the opportunity to be in a house
she will calm right down. If I didn't have so much on my plate right now I would
take her myself.

She is up to date on shots and spayed, no known health problems at this time.

Again, I'm in Eastern Washington but would be willing to drive a bit or even ship.

I sthe baby also the reason why they're getting rid of an outside dog, or have you finally convinced her that Bailey is due for an upgrade?

Glad you guys feel the same way I do.... the whole thing makes me LIVID!! I mean here are our dogs living it up and poor little Bailey is stuck in a hole all the time. I always make SURE to interact with her and let her out while I'm over there.

call2arms, I just finally convinced them that Bailey deserves better, after almost 2 years of prodding.

I don't necessarily object to outdoor dogs, if its done right.

But this... whats the point? Obviously they don't have her for the interaction. Its sad :( Poor Bailey.

She is a very pretty lab :)
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

:bump:

Alright guys..... this is getting serious now. The owner (my SIL) is really ready to get rid of this dog. Bailey now will not coming inside without pitching a physical fit, flailing and digging her feet in, etc... because she doesn't want to be in her kennel, but it's WAY to cold at night for her to be out all night. Also, tonight she broke her run line and ran away. She's currently still MIA, but this isn't the first time it's happened and she always comes back after she gets a good run in. Maybe we can try to get a new home in the works so that when Bailey comes back to SILs house she won't have to stay there for very much longer. Please help Bailey, she is so unhappy where she is.

Here is a video of her, you can see that she has little obedience and very little focus, mostly because that was the first time she had been out of her kennel in months and she was so excited she couldn't concentrate. She is VERY trainable though and really food motivated. I think some +R and good quality time will help her come out of her shell and become the perfect family pet.

Well Bailey is home safe and sound. A neighbour found her and kept her overnight and called SIL in the morning.

On the homefront: SIL decided she wants to keep dog, she's going to bathe the dog and let her in the house, no matter what hubby says. In fact, she's going to do it last Saturday. Oh but then she ended up being really busy last weekend and didn't have money for the bath and additional baby gates that she will need to keep the dog in the house. And this weekend she won't have money either, so how about next weekend? But you just wait, next weekend is the weekend before Christmas, I'm sure something will come up.

Long story short, she says she's letting the dog in the house and wants to keep it, but I don't believe it, so PLEASE, LET'S FIND BAILEY A HOME!!!!

Money for the bath? Can you go there and just wash him in the tub or hose him down outside? I know it is cold there, but how about buckets of warm water from inside? I do that in the winter if one of them rolls in something disqusting.

Walmart sells baby gates for about $7.00. Can you suggest putting him in a laundry room or entrance way (inside) and at least blocking it with chairs?

I realize she seems inpossible to deal with, but you seem like a very persuasive person. Use those skills! :) How about you talking to the husband? Wear something sexy.

Joyce I just saw this response, sorry! LOL

Yes we could bathe her at her home, yes she could spend $7 on baby-gates, but I think that it really comes down to the fact that these are all excuses to mask the fact that she isn't willing to work with the dog. You know what I mean?

The bottom line is that, a month later, the dog is STILL not in the house and she continues to run away repeatedly but one way or another ends back up at home. I still can't find any local rescues to take her. :(
