Tampa Pit Bull needs home

Postby APBTlvr » August 3rd, 2008, 12:08 am

Okay guys, this is the second time I post in regards to this dog who needs a new home and this time it is for real. Last time I posted, the owner husband kept him for a little while (husband and wife divorced), but now husband is moving to PA and this dog is oficially homeless as of tomorrow morning 9:30. Supposedly his sister was going to take the dog, but... he ended up calling me and asking me whether I can keep him and I can't. I can foster him until we find him a good home, but can't keep him permanently. Last thing I want for this dog to go to the pound.

Here are some pictures:

The dog who needs a home is the lighter color dog. The darker one is my pit bull.

Some info on the dog:

The dog was adopted by husband and wife around 16 months ago from the Tampa Humane Society (i think). I know the dog ever since they got him because they live in the same subdivision I do. His name is Bobo and he has A LOT of energy. Extremely friendly towards animals (of all kinds) including other pit bulls, cats (including my own).

The only time I have seen him aggressive was towards a beagle who lives in a our neighborhood and is always locked on the screened lanai and he never stops howling. And it was anything serious, but I would just like to point it out.

Very eager to please, to learn and also he is a great jogging partner - keeps going and going, we do 3-4 miles medium pace jog and he still has plenty of energy left afterwards (I don't know whether that's a positive or a negative :-))

There is a video I have posted on youtube Bobo playing with Kai (my dog).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJvcp4cCcFs

Please help me find a home for this big boy. He is neutered, up to date on his shots, crate trained, highly energetic, eager to learn and please and he will give you kisses until his mouth dries up! approx 18-9 months old, no health problems of any kind. He is microchipped and I will make sure that whoever gets him will receive a full bag of Canidae 40lbs. and also his crate.

Please help me find this dog a home. Send me private messages if you need anymore info on the dog or if you would like to see him.

Thank you!

Okay, as of 9am this morning, the dog needing the home is officially mine - was dropped and tied to my front porch by his owner (my "friend" and neighbor) and the owner is nowhere to be found because he flew out to PA. Until last night I kept texting the person asking him whether he has figured out everything with his sister and whether she is taking the dog (Bobo). Last text msg I sent out around 1am and he never replied. I wake up this morning around 8:30 because of a dog crying and I open the door and see Bobo tied on my porch.

So great...

I am going to bathe the dog, clip his nails and I am going to go buy a crate, because my retarded "friend" and neighbor didn't even bother leaving me his. I don't even know where to put the crate because my dog hasn't been crate in a LONG time and I gave away my crate to a friend who got boxers.

Guys I definitely need your help in finding this dog a home. If you don't know anybody in the Tampa area that is a responsible person and can take care of a young pit bull, please let me know how to start searching for a person, what criteria to look for, etc. because I cannot keep the dog.

Please, an advice will help!

Thank you!

Thanks for replying!!! I really need all the support I can get... I just came back from the store, bought a brand new crate ($100, just great!!!), eye wash and stain remover (he has stains from his tears) and a tooth brush so I can brush his teeth.

I am going to have breakfast and the major bath begins...

I can't even figure out where to put the crate, but I guess I will make some adjustments...

Any ideas how to start looking for a home for the dog? How to screen the people, how to find people, etc.? Last thing I want is for the dog to go to the pound.

All advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

pbrc.net
petfinder.com

Both of those are free to list animals. You could try Craigslist, but I'd be SUPER-CAREFUL about screening people from there.

I will definitely list there... also what else should I do and ask when screening people besides the obvious?

Okay I posted on pbrc.net and petfinder.com. Hopefully they approve my posting because they require for you to have an "organization". I also posted in craigslist so lets see what response I get.

You want to know what happened to former pets - did they run away or get hit by a car? That may mean they don't keep the dog on leash.

Ask what they plan on feeding.

Ask about experience with the breed/knowledge of any BSL that may be in your town.

Ask about crate training.

How the dog will get exercise.

Indoor/outdoor dog.

Where the dog will sleep.

Whether they plan on doing obedience classes, and if so, where.

Ask about other pets.

What will they do if the dog ends up not working out.

How many hours a day the dog will be alone.

That kind of stuff. :)

Cool, thanks for the suggestions!!! Is it too much if I draft up an adoption contract and if I approve of the applicant maybe have them sign it and check on the dog every month or so and if I see a problem then hold them liable for it?

craigslist ad was flagged for removal.. I wonder why... also the only reason why I require the $50 adoption fee is because the website makes you put some kind of a fee, same with pbrc.net. Here is the craigslist ad:

An 18 month old American Pit Bull Terrier needs a home. It is a light golden brown color, red nose male named Bobo. The dog is neutered and microchipped. Highly energetic, makes an excellent jogging partner (3-4 miles without a problem), loyal, eager to learn and please. Extremely loving and gets along with all animals, including cats. Excellent with children as well, but caution needs to be applied because Bobo gets super happy and might knock a small child over by trying to lick and kiss.

I will underline this one more time - the dog is high energy!!! Need exercise on daily basis!!! If you don't have the time to exercise this dog (running, or at least couple of long walks per day) please do not contact. Also please do research on the breed before contacting me to see whether this breed is right for you.

The dog will come with a brand new crate, 35lbs bag of Canidae dog food, one month of Interceptor heart worm preventative and one month of K9 Advantix flea, tick, etc. preventative, choke chain and a 6ft leash. Dog is up to date on all vaccinations!

Due to the circumstances and the abuse of this breed there will be a strict screening process:

1. An interview will be required with the applicant.

2. House inspection.

2.1. If you own your home, you will need to check with your insurance carrier to see whether there will be a problem with your new choice of breed. Also if you are deed restricted, please check your pet restrictions (breed, size, etc.)

2.2. If you do not own your home and rent from your landlord, you will need to have the landlord written and signed permission allowing you to bring an American Pit Bull Terrier to the home.

2.3. If you rent from an apartment complex, a letter will be required from your management office allowing you to bring an American Pit Bull Terrier to the apartment.

3. Adoption contract required for the applicant to sign.

The adoption fee for this animal is $50.

Pictures of the animal are as follows. There is also a video of the dog with another pit bull and a cat on youtube:

It got flagged because people are flag-happy on CL. I would absolutely do an adoption contract.

Keep posting him on CL... some people are just being completely stupid. There is nothing in your ad that warrants flagging it. Maybe call your adoption fee a "re-homing fee" instead.
Good luck to Bobo.

I don't even want an adoption fee...the webpage requires it, same with pbrc.net (they even say that if you give the dog for free, they will erase the posting).

I guess I will keep posting it on cragislist. Hopefully they approve my posting on pbrc.net and petfinder.com

I just posted again on craigslist... hopefully they don't flag it again...

Can you guys send me some kind of a draft on an adoption contract? Or at least suggestions on what should I include there when I find a potential applicant for Bobo?

Try to get an answer here - http://miami.craigslist.org/forums/?forumID=9

What county are you in? Do you have a link to your ad on CL?

I have no idea why you're being flagged unless it's by people who are bored or don't have a life otherwise. :crazy2:

I am in Pasco County, Florida. Don't really know what the problem seems to be. Nothing offensive in my ad, nothing against rules... argh...

Hmm... try putting "$50.00 re-homing fee" in your title (or omit the fee altogether, except for in your actual ad) if you get flagged again.
Oh... and you might want to list him in the pet section instead of under "general"... that could be the real reason you keep getting flagged.

Right now it's still up - http://tampa.craigslist.org/psc/for/781895861.html

Click on this link and check under "Community"... click on the link that says "pets".

http://tampa.craigslist.org/psc/

In the "general" section it clearly states to "please flag pet sales" on the top of the page.
