If it would hold Tucker when he was a pup, it will be great for Miss Piggy. I'll call you tomorrow! Thanks!

AAKKKK!!!!! I was on vacation and just read this! (And yes, I will ignore the Joyce/Labs/off-topic comment, since you are now an official LABRADOR LOVER.) :)

They are so freaking cute. Thank you for taking them in. :hug3:

As for CPS, in NY it is anonymous. I would call about the kids. If you can find a school nearby that they go to, you can also tell the Nurse what you found and she/he can check on the physical conditions of the children. Again, in NY, if I am made aware of a potential CPS situtation, as a Teacher, and don't report it, I can be brought up on charges. Maybe it is the same with the TX school system.

My ACO took over a week to get back to me about a leash law concerning the local park, don't give up on them yet!
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

I'm just getting updated on this thread...I was wondering how you had suddenly gone up in doggie numbers...and found this thread! ;)

Any updates on the little ones? I have friends in lab rescue, but they're mainly in the NE...I don't know if they can help at all...maybe a transport?

I've never really like labs, to be honest...

Which is probably why three of them have shown up in the last week. Sort of a goodwill puppy alliance.

They're aight, I suppose! :D

I've turned the guest bedroom into the dog room. Pics later this evening.

I picked up my prejudice of labs from my Aussies...who found that labs aren't good for much except Herding at the dog park. They're rather like sheep, the Aussies tell me.

From one of the Lab Boards I go to, I know somebody involved with the group, Heart of Texas Lab Rescue. They serve Austin, San Antonio, and surrounding areas. It is HOTLR's policy to accept and place dogs ONLY in the state of Texas.

Alrighty, updates from the "Bridge City Lab Haven..."

Aunt Jan is taking the brown pup, but in return we are taking the pit pup she picked up awhile back. Her neighbor "heard" from someone that pit pups can climb wood fences and even go through them, and he is worried that Shelby might eat his dachshund. (Right. This from a guy whose own dog has bitten the neighbor on the OTHER side.)

It is for the best though, because although Jan's house would be any dog's first choice home, she's not really able to handle a pittie, especially not one as energetic as Shelby. The little brown lab would be much better suited for her.

We are still looking for the owners of the big lab, but no luck. It's a small town, they've gotta be here somewhere.

The little black puppy is going to need a home. The lab rescues I have looked into do not take "found" dogs. (They don't take surrendered dogs either. I'm wondering what dogs they do take.)

So, as of right now, there are SIX dogs, two pits, three different flavors of lab, and one very pissed off chihuahua, because she thinks everyone is staying.

As ridiculous as it sounds to have six dogs in our little house, it is running quite smoothly. (As long as Paul takes the morning shift!)

Even more amazing is that in the two days Paul and I have been without cigarettes, we have spring cleaned the house and completely cleaned out the garage and have NOT killed each other. (Not that we haven't gotten mildly snarky with each other a bit. But just a bit!)

We'll post pictures of Shelby when she comes next weekend.

Prayers and positive thoughts that we find Big Boy's owner!

Last but not least...let me know if you just MUST have a black lab puppy!

What about finding an all breed rescue. usually breed rescues will only take purebred dogs mostly from shelters. But I know of some that will make exceptions and take in surrenders. If you were closer I know of a rescue that would take the pup in a heart beat!

I will do some checking on it while I am at work tomorrow. Sally is a sweetheart and I am sure we will be able to find a home for her very soon. I just want Big Boy's family to come looking for him.

I am 6 foot tall and 215lbs and that dog yanked me off my feet with nearly no effort. Mammoth Pooch!

Update...

Piglet began to drop weight very rapidly in the last two days. She had the worst diarrhea too. I felt like a total failure. Nothing was working, not rice and broth, not even pumpkin.

This morning the vet said that she had a severe intestinal disorder that would require surgery. (No can do, buddy, we are not an actual rescue and don't have the funds!)

So Paul tells him we can't handle the bill, and the doc, who I just love now, says that he can drain the abscess in her intestine that is pushing her rectum out through her anus, (gross), and medicate her to clear the infection for a reasonable cost...as long as we are willing to feed her well and on a strict schedule. (Well duh. Of course we are willing! Just reattach her butt, please!)

So, I need tried and true suggestions on what I can feed her, and advice from anyone who has personally dealt with puppies that were malnourished and on a trash/scavenge diet for the first weeks of their life. The good news is that she does have a home lined up with Aunt Jan, who will of course treat her like a princess.

The bad news is that we still have no takers for the little black lab. Also, we have not located the owner of the big yellow lab, although I think chances of placing him will be easier than the little black one.

Shelby the pit bull is coming tomorrow. Hopefully she will introduce well. I will have pictures as soon as things get settled. It is going to be a long weekend.
