Medications we use in our rescue

This might be more useful for rescues, unless you have a lot of dogs and want to save some on vet bills.

You can order all antibiotics as "fish meds" and they are the same medications you would get at the vet office.
There's limited dosages, usually 250mg. and 500mg. but you can always split the dosages.

We use either Amoxicillin or Cephalexin (generic for Keflex) for general infections. We recommend doing this only under the advice of a licensed veterinarian who you are accustomed to working with. You can call and discuss the condition with your vet and even go by the office and get a weight check whereupon your vet will prescribe a given dosage from the medications you have on hand.
At that time, should your veterinarian decide a different medication is warranted then you should purchase what your vet recommends.

We purchase our vaccines here as well, and get a good deal by ordering two sets of 25 at once.

Tapeworm medications are sold as "Fish tapes" or "fish tapes forte" and again, are a fraction of the cost of what you buy at the vet, and are the exact same medication- praziquantel.

Fish Zole and Fish Zole Forte are metronidazole/Flagyl and can be used in any non-specific diarrhea.

That is, any diarrhea that is not due to Parvo. Flagyl is commonly used to treat coccidia and/or giardia as well as diarrhea due to other conditions listed here:

It is an excellent medication to keep on hand and have a dosing chart made up by your vet or else found online.

I hope you can find this information useful!
