This is a message from a VERY good friend of mine. If anyone can help PLEASE let me know!!

Many of you have heard me talk about my best friend Heather. She is the one who lost her mother a year ago- her mom was only 62 and was diag with lung cancer. They did surg only to realize it was pnemonia, and becuase she was compromised her other lung collapsed and she coded. When she was finally brought back she was completely paralyzed and had massive brain damage. She passed away last year. She was survived by her husband (my girlfriend's step dad) who's health wasnt that great either- he was on an oxygen tank and in and out of the hospital. The husband, Mark died in his apartment at the end of last week after being released from the hospital a few days prior with an lung infection. When my friends brother-in-law went in due to noone answering hte phone etc, he was found dead in bed. That was Sunday evening and the medical examiner concluded he had been dead prob since at least Friday.
This man had the two dogs and three cats that he shared with his wife before her death. When she died and he had to sell their trailer and move to section 8 housing he was able to find housing that would let him keep all of his animals. Depiste having no food and water, those animals never got into anything AND those dog never had an accidnet- meaning they had held it for days. There was enough fur in the bed to waarant the assumption that the animals held vigil with their owner until someone got into the house.
One of the step- daughters was able to take one cat. My girlfrind (a psycho animal lover like us) married a guy who had severe astma and is on meds against his doctor's wishes (the docotr want them to get rid of her cats as it is). My girlfriend (who is 6 months pregnant!!) is devastated these babies are the last connection to her mother and doesnt want to bring them to a shelter- her mother was a devote shelter adopter and a friend to all animals.
I am sending this becuase I am hoping we can find soem homes for these babies. If the dogs could go together that's be great, but as someone who is involved in rescue I understand that might be wishful thinking. The cats sort of "exist" together and could be placed seperatley. These babies have been through so much in the past few years I could write a novel. When I had my kennel in MA they stayed with me for a few months while BOTH owners were hospitalized....
So here is the run down:
DOGS
Zack-n/m poddle/cocker mix, approx 8 yrs old. Blackish silver (depending on how long his coat is) Like other dogs, is used to human companionship, cuddle bug. Small cocker size. Loves car rides, and to snuggle. Can be barky, not horrible, but will let you know if someone pulls into your drive way. He lived in section 8/elderly housing and did so without complaints. Has lived with cats and other dogs his whole life as well as large parrots. Is hyper now but hasnt been walked other than for potty breaks in months- when he lived with me and played at daycare he was calm.
Nellie-s/f beagle x , white and black, approx 7-8 years old. A bit larger than a beagle but not a medium sized dog. Same as above but she did not live with parrots, she was aquired after the large birds had passed. Lived with cats and Zack her whole life.
CATS
Leo-A smudge cat- n/m, has smudge personality-shy with new people, will hide. Lived with other cats and will play rough, but doenst attack them. Take a while to come around for new people. would do best in ahome w/o young children.Lived with dogs but not exactly "fond" of them.
Jackie- 3 years old, s/f, domestic short hair. Will run and hide when new people come then will adjust. Used to living with cats and dogs. A love once she gets to know you.
I DO have pictures but they are hard copies and I am trying to figure out how to scan them into my scanner to get them into files.
Please contact me directly and permission to crosspost is granted. These dogs are currently living in the apt of their deceased owner and being let out by family members until they get all the deseased affects out then the apt needs to be rented out, so a quick placement would be my dream!!
thanks in advance!
