Have to giggle at myself..............as I'm reading everyone's responses, I find myself going to the ""Like"" button!!
LOL

Hahaha, I can't tell you how many times I've thought that. I even mentioned wishing I could like a post on here before it went dormant. Oh Facebook...

I've noticed since their "Promote" option appeared, my newsfeed is starting to look like a billboard. I'm constantly getting advertisements for businesses I don't even care about every few statuses, just because a friend liked it. I thought by promoting posts, businesses could be sure to reach more of the people that liked their page. I don't even like it and see it constantly. I'm getting really tired of it. Probably a reason I've been shifting back to forums.

I really missed the permanence of forums. And the searchability. Yeah, FB has a search function but it really doesn't cut it. And Kristen, you're not kidding about the ads. And quite frankly, I'm getting a bit tired of seeing the same old crap from everybody - I've begun blocking people from my feed because all they do is post anti-Obama stuff, or pro-Obama stuff, or anti-Republican, or anti-Democrat. I know your religious beliefs, I know your political beliefs, etc. You don't need to repost EVERY DAMNED THING that reflects those. Save the reposting for the really quality stuff.

It's so fun getting excited when I see that little pink square next to a subsection showing there are no posts! FB doesn't give me that thrill, lol .

So true. I usually opt for outright deleting people (although I do reserve simply blocking for family). I have someone on the chopping block now. It's just constant reposting of "facts" that a simple Google search could debunk for them. Maybe I'll do a "Let Me Google That For You" link and then I'll unfriend them.

For anyone's viewing pleasure that has no idea what I'm talking about...

SO AGREED about those pesky ads.......*and* the 'personal interest stuff'.
I'll be the first to admit, I 'share' some views I have on a few issues, but I think all of us doing that occasional was okay, because at one time, FB had DISCUSSIONS.......Banter........Fun Exchanges. I just don't see that from my friends anymore----Everybody ""Likes""" something, but it seems there's just been a cliff where the 'draw' of Facebook fell off and hit-splat.

And this is what I hope for here......NOT JUST an 'educational' Dog Forum......but a GROUP of Dog Lovers who Can go Back to Cultivating and MAINTAINING Forum Friendships.

And maybe I want too much. :|
At one time, FB provided me with a plethora of interest groups---for my ADD//Curious Mind, there was always different discussions going on.
When the "talk" stopped, FB has just become a great big Bulletin Board where I scroll through and see who has "pinned' up their quote/picture of the day.

Exactly. I think the fact that we read a forum and instantly look for the "like" button is indicative of this problem. People (myself included!!) would rather just "like" something and continue. I know sometimes I like and comment, but most of the time I just like. It seems like such a conversation killer. Instead of liking something, I could easily comment and say that I agree and add my own little tidbit, but I just don't. Because liking something and scrolling on is much easier.

It's taken practice to get myself back into the forum habit of actually taking time and responding to something. Haha!

I also prefer the forum setting because my job blocks FB and I feel out of the loop ALL DAY. This way I can stay caught up on conversations!

I do wish it were easier to upload pictures here. I always seemed to have problems. :|
I guess the good thing is I don't really NEED any *more* pictures of Dar lying around being wrapped in a blanket, LOL

Well, I'm adding the mobile version of the forum today or tomorrow. It will cost $2 or $3 to use, but it's a one time fee. I'll be adding the "share to fb" button back in at some point as well, hopefully to start driving traffic back here.

I'm not sure we want a "like" button on the forum though, for the very reasons outlined above. Thoughts on that?

As far as the "Like" button, I am really used to it, but I'm thinking it will just re-create the biggest "lack' FB has for me now, and that's the absence of real conversation.

If we come here and just "Like" each other's stuff, we are just making a lateral shift.

I do like the 'share to FB" ........so we can get some traffic----

For Me, I'm looking for 'community'........and honestly, if not for the friends I already have here, I'm not sure I would have the energy or the optimism to try and build it again.

Though I like a like button, I don't want one here. Way too easy to just "like" and move on. I like having to share more, even if it's just a smiley face, or "great job!" or "awesome article!"

And which mobile app are you using, Michelle?

I agree, no likes. I'm way too likely to stop responding. I would probably just have liked Liz's or Grace's response here and moved on. :P

Forum runner. It's $1.99 in the app store. When you go to the forum from your phone, you'll get a notification.

Right now the icons aren't working properly, it shows everything as new. It appears to be a bug with the software, and I'm waiting on a fix.

While the icons aren't working, you can use the "current" link at the bottom of the page.

Oh no worries, posting the normal way will always be my preference! But now I can easily browse the forum even when not around a computer! I can feed my addiction more easily!
