Xander needs some good thoughts please...

Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!

Postby TheRedQueen » July 1st, 2011, 9:26 pm

Xander is currently at the Emergency hospital in Frederick. He's in kidney failure, but they're not sure what's causing it or why. He is also anemic, and his pancreas is affected too. His spleen is slightly enlarged on the x-rays. They're going to keep him until Tuesday at this point, to see if they can get him to feel better. Due to his heart murmur being so bad, they have to be careful with the fluids. The ER vet gave him a 50/50 prognosis at this point.

He's been off his food for about a week, but since he's a very finicky eater, I wasn't TOO worried. Then when he had a blow-out at both ends after dinner last night...I got worried and made a vet appt. this afternoon. He was seen there, and they recommended hospitalization.

 Please send any good thoughts his way

I'm so sorry :( Good thoughts.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

Oh, Erin! We feel your pain. :hug3: When you visit him, whisper in his ear that all his friends, human and dogs, are pulling for him. He is now on the top of my good intentions list.

He's apparently being a VERY good boy...but that's to be expected, because that's simply what he is...a very good boy. They were surprised that he's so quiet and clean in his crate (he's also a gentleman)...lol.

He's drinking and peeing just fine, they've upped his fluids, and everything is still going well. They fed him some wet food this afternoon, which he snarfed (yea!)...and they were going to do a recheck of all of his blood and urine tonight.

Still NO idea why this has happened...he doesn't get into anything that he shouldn't, and he didn't get fed anything that the others didn't get also. So no toxins, or the wrong food, or anything like that. He's damn near the perfect dog...he won't touch food unless I give the okay, so for him to get into something is just unbelievable.

They said it might just be old age...that his kidneys are failing due to age, but I think we're just grasping at straws. The hope is that it's acute, and that they can get it under control...whatever the cause.

He's there until Tuesday...unless he turns around quickly and they can figure it out.

John and I applied for Care Credit *gulp* to pay for him to be there...I'd like him to come home sooner...but he's paid up until Tuesday.

I might be reading this wrong, but just because you paid for him to BE there doesn't mean he has to STAY there. Personally, I would forfit the money and take him home the second he was out of the woods medically or I could administer whatever he needed.

I hope he kicks ass and gets better!!

We had to pay ahead of time...and he's paid up until Tuesday. He's not out of the woods yet, he's still in renal failure, though his numbers are getting better.

The big thing, which I forgot to mention...if he gets an ultrasound this weekend or tomorrow, the specialist has to come in specifically for him, and it costs MORE big bucks than usual. So we're holding off on the ultrasound until Tuesday, if we can...so it goes back to the *regular* big bucks price.

Erin picked him up this morning. He saw the specialist...I don't know if they did an ultrasound or not, Erin will post better details when she gets home....she sent him home with bags of fluid & 4 meds for Erin to aminister, but the pragnosis seriously sucks ass. She gave him about 6 months.

Oh no... I don't know what to say. Hopefully the power of PBT can help extend that.
