Surgery Checklist for Truman

Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!

Postby iluvk9 » January 12th, 2011, 7:55 am

Let's go over the plan and see if I am missing anything, okay?

1) No water/food tonight. No breakfast tomorrow, which Truman will think is the WORST part of his day.

2) Snow shouldn't stop either surgeon from Cornell (http://www.vet.cornell.edu/hospital/) or me from getting there.

3) He goes in at 8:15 am. :shocker: I get the call he is out of surgery with an update.

4) Before I pick him up, I put Lenny in crate and put gates up to keep Darlene and Harley out of dog den, which Truman will be entering.

5) Daughter-in-law will sit in back of SUV with him on way home. Big blanket in back for both of them. :giggle:

6)***This is the part I am visualizing so it is done correctly**** I back SUV up to driveway and at the PERFECT spot, where the height is only 15-16", I stop. We then put the new customized sling around him and while getting him to use his front legs out, guide the back end out. Offer him a spot to pee.

7) Walk him into dog den and have him lay on twin bed on his good side.

8.) Offer a little water. Offer a very little food. Hug him a lot. Repeat every hour.

9) Take photos. Let others sniff him because there is something about a dog returning from the Vet that has interesting smells. :|

10) Ice as the needed.

Sounds like he's good to go.

You forgot the part about making sure you have my phone number on hand so you can call if you need Mark's help. I have some nearer to you (40 minutes) that I trust with my dogs, house keys and kids if you need help too.

Thanks! My Vet has a "knee guy from Cornell" do all these surgeries. He has done 4 other knees on my dogs.

This is my helper. My Daughter-in-law will be providing the other half of the muscles to lift him. :giggle: Don't let her size fool you...she can kick anyone's ass.

I bought her this hat because it looks like Callie, her family's Standard Poodle. 8)

Sounds like you have a great plan! And I'm also glad to know I'm not the only one who plots things out like that :giggle:

Good thoughts for Truman, and you too of course!

Look at beautiful Chrintina. :) She looks even tinier next to all that snow. You must have got a lot more today because this morning you told me a foot. That looks like more than a foot.

Time to stock up on BoBo's I was just at walmart and they have HUGE ones on sale.
