Antiques! Eek!

Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!

Postby pitbullmamaliz » September 14th, 2010, 11:48 am

So my dad and stepmom sold their house (on the market less than a week, got their asking price  ) and they are majorly downsizing. He asked if I want the family antiques - a grafanola (working), floor radios, icebox, brass bed and oak dresser. I said hell yeah, 'cause I don't want them sold, but now I'm wondering where the hell I'm going to put them! lol I'll find a space, obviously, 'cause I'm kinda excited (and nervous) about getting them, but eek! I'll be in charge of the safekeeping of valuable antiques!

Just had to have a little stressed out rant, sorry!

Love antiques! Not sure anything made in our era is ever going to measure up.

I am not an antiques-person, per se, but I love seeing a few older pieces in with people's stuff. A house full of them doesn't do anything for me.

I have a real old school desk that opens from the top and has an ink well in the top. Also an old big boxed telephone with the dial on the front and a handle on the side. My best one (and only other one) is my breakfront for wine glasses. I was told it was worth a lot. It has a few sections you open and inside it has compartments, like an old desk would have. Yes, I know photos would help. :neener:

So, did you get anything yet, Liz?

I have my grandmother's old chair...antiquey...and I love it. I agree with Joyce, a few nice pieces in the home are so lovely! Congrats!

Anitques make awsome accent peices. I have a few scattered about my house and I can truly enjoy them because I can take the time to enjoy each peice and the memories they each contain.
