Exercising dogs with inline skates. Yeah, I'm officially a nerd but my dogs have never been happier or in better shape.

I've always tried running Earl and Kayden a few times a week when I run but have been having problems with my knee so haven't been able to run them as much. Having Manny in the house made it nearly impossible to exercise the 4 dogs by walking them so I bought a pair of inline skates. Exercising the dogs has been a breeze and they absolutely LOVE it. I usually take Earl and Kayden together and Manny by himself and all the dogs are getting 4-5 miles per day without me really breaking a sweat (they basically pull me down the street).

If you can get over the nerd factor, I highly suggest investing in a pair. I'm planning on taking them to the shelter to tire out some of the high energy dogs.

Okay here's my dumb question, how do you stop? I can just see Latte or Max pulling me off a bridge or into traffic somewhere LOL

Yeah, it helps to be coordinated...I don't have that gift. ;)

There is a brake on one of the skates and teaching your dog(s) a stop command certainly comes in handy  I did do one face plant with the boys when I tried to roll through some dirt that turned out to be mud. Other than that, it has been smooth sailing.

It is also helpful to teach your dogs directional commands so when you come up to intersections you can call out right or left and they know which direction to go. I always used that when I ran the dogs so it has really come in handy when you are rolling along and don't want the dogs to go one way while you are trying to go the other.

LOL it isn't nerdy at all IMO.

I've been roller blading with my dogs since my bike got stolen! It's a great workout for you and them, especially if your dog isn't a huge puller - so you actually have to exercise too!

HA! I like the wheels on his butt so he can sit while rolling. He reminds me of those Wheelie things from Return to Oz. They were creepy.

I went roller blading with Cleo ONCE. I was wearing a pair of shorts, she pulled me down - I sat down hard. I got horrible road rash on my rear end ... I skated over a mile home with blood running down the backs of my legs soaking into my socks.

No thanks.

I envy you being able to roller blade that much! I miss roller blading so much, I used to do 5 miles along the Farmington Canal way & Autumn would ride her bike along side of me.

Mark is buying me these as a combined Birthday/Mother's Day/I'm a Dickhead present, since I've been whining about how much I miss my roller blades.

They're Roller Skis that come with either a third wheel or an outrigger for those like me whose balance is routinely challenged, and they can also be equipped with speed reducers & an emergency break.

For me they will be great! The ski doesn't have as tall of a profile that the roller blade, the platform is longer and can be equipped to keep people like me from ending on up YouTube videos with spectacular whipe outs.

I got all the protective gear ready to go, ordered a new helmet & increased my life insurance.

Petey used to drag me up the street too Michelle, the redness you see on my nose is the result of him dragging me up the street on my face & chest. I had road rash on my nose, chin and my chest after that incident.
