So I'm looking for a new job, as a vet tech help (I don't have the schooling for it yet... In september, hopefully!)...

I'm looking in my neighborhood first, and I remembered a nice vet clinic I once went to to euth one of my rats. I just went today, and while I couldn't talk to the vet (very busy), I actually knew the vet tech at the reception! I met her at the shelter when I just adopted Jessie, she was with a friend who adopted a dog as well... She remembered me, we had a nice talk and she set me an appointment with the vet tommorow!

I didn't even think I had a chance, it's training period for some of the schools and I expected them to have just hired some vet tech students, and to tell me they didn't need me at all...

It dosen't take me much to be ecstatic, I know, but I really want that job!
I just needed to share, I'm alone with Jessie and she's not very excited about it... lol

Good Luck!! Many of the places around me, including the hospital I work at now, will train.

Take it from me:
DON'T WORK FOR YOUR VET'S OFFICE!

I was asked as a favor by Wally's vet to do it temporarily for a few months while their receptionist was going through some health stuff. I agreed only because I had just lost my job (damn photographer going and getting pregnant on me!). I had already had my fill of the medical side of things (worked at 2 different facilities).

Well I've been working there since October, now. I just had to give my notice as I was handed a doggie daycare business (yay!!). Now the head vet/practice owner is pissed off at me. I know I can still go back and see the other vet who works there, but it makes it awkward.

Oh, and the vet has hired only 2 other clients in the past. Both became so pissed off after being fired (hey at least I wasn't fired!) that they no longer go there.

My suggestion: Keep your regular vet as your regular vet. Do any expensive work at the place you work for so you get a discount. But NEVER work for your own vet.

The vet I'm going to work at is NOT my vet... I just did an emergency euthanization of one of my rats a coupe years ago there, and the vet was very nice... Plus it's very close to home. OMG I hope it workssssssss... I'm so damn nervous!

Gaaah... As usual I get my hopes up waay too high and then I'm deceived.
They don't need somebody until may (that's a long time without income...) and that would be only for 6 weeks (2 of training, 4 of work during a tech's vacation) but on top of that I had a trip planned in may and everything is already paid for.

Gotta keep looking for something else I guess...
