I stopped reading when I got to:

"I would never vote for anyone that has Hussein for a middle name"

Why stop reading when you see something you don't like? That's pretty closed-minded.

Most of the rabid Democrats I know are even more reactive to the name "Bush". Sends them into fits of pseudo-Tourrette's and you can count on hearing the words "tyrant", "Nazi", "bloodthirsty", etc.

I don't care what their first, middle, or last name is. If they understand that government is the problem, NOT the solution, I'll consider voting for them.

Oh please. I read plenty of crap I don't agree with. I just have better things to do with my time tonight than read something so prejudiced and IMO stupid.

I don't really understand that comparison :| If there was a candidate that I liked who happened to have the name Bush it wouldnt bother me at all.

Hussein is a VERY common Arabic name.

That's like me saying "I would never vote for someone who's named George."

I am amazed at how acceptable it still is to be so utterly racist in this society. It makes me sick.

As the wife who made the statement, let me assure you this was not a racist remark. I could care less if the candidate is purple, green, orange, or blue, but I do have an issue voting for a presidential candidate whose name can so easily be associated with the very country where hundreds of US military men and women are loosing their lives to protect our country. That has to do with patriotism, not racism.

I choose not to take the chance that names, nationality, and religion do not matter. There are no perfect candidates, there never are. The bottom line is that everyone must vote their own convictions.

My convictions tell me to tread carefully when warning signs are apparent. My convictions allow me to respect other's opinions without feeling the need to call them prejudice or stupid, particularly if I haven't heard all they have to say.

I sincerely hope each and every American carefully considers their choice of candidates. This likely will be the most monumental presidential election in history. It has the potential to change lives, and country, which brings to mind a saying a close friend taught me. "Be careful what you wish for, pray for, or ask for. You may just get it!"

Watch the name slinging guys. You don't have to agree with another's opinions but you do need to respect their right to have those opinions. This has been a civil conversation so far, let's keep it that way,

There's that word. "Stupid". Goes right along with the other ones I pointed out ("Nazi" etc.). You know what? I recoiled at the idea of a lifelong Republican doing ANYTHING to support Hillary, who is a socialist. But I read the whole thing anyway. I listen to Air America too. Looking at both sides of the argument is essential to Representative Republicanism, which is what this country is.

I don't really understand that comparison :| If there was a candidate that I liked who happened to have the name Bush it wouldnt bother me at all.

From everything you have written regarding politics it's a pretty safe bet that you would never find a "Bush" candidate that you would like, so that's a moot point.

You know what I have a problem with regarding this whole "Hussein" thing? Here are a list of names.

William Jefferson Clinton
Ronald Wilson Reagan
Hillary Rodham Clinton
George Herbert Walker Bush
George W. Bush
John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Barack Hussein Obama

The first six are commonly referred to by all three proper names. But if someone refers to Obama and uses his middle name, he will immediately get nailed by the left in this country as "playing on racism" and "being divisive". You NEVER hear him referred to as "Barack Hussein Obama" in the mainstream media because they're too busy tongue-kissing the guy at every opportunity (right wing radio guys OTOH get blasted for this). Double standard? Absolutely. But that's par for the course with this candidate and the media. I'm just glad that the voters, as opposed to the media, are going to elect the next president.

I was thinking the exact opposite. I don't know John McCain's middle name. I don't know Hillary Rodham Clinton's middle name. Do you?

Again... I ready PLENTY that I don't agree with. When I get Jehovah's Witness pamphlets I read them for christ sakes! And BELIEVE me, I'm WAY on the other side of THAT.

But like I said, I had better things to do with my time tonight. I don't choose to read everything I come across on the web. Who does? :|

No. I referred to someone not voting for a candidate simply because they happen to have an Arabic middle name, as racist.

Do you really believe that racism, prejudice, or mistrust of those who are different are failings that are limited to the U.S.A? Or that those things are worse here than in other countries? I really hope that is not what you are saying. If so, I have news for you. The U.S.A. is one of the most tolerant, if not THE most tolerant country in the world. We actually have Constitutional provisions in place to protect the rights of people who have avowed to tear the system down!

Everyone, including minorities, who are either born in this country or who emigrate here have it pretty good. Better than most places in the world actually. There are scores of immigrants, refugees, and yes, illegals who risk their lives every day for a chance to just get into this country. If it's really so horribly racist here then why do so many who would be theoretically oppressed by that racism risk everything for a shot at getting in?

Where are the native born Americans that are swimming across the Rio Grande to get to Mexico?

It's Diane. My point regarding the media's soft handing Obama stands. On the other stuff I generally agree with you. I'd vote for a Muslim, Mormon, atheist, Santerosa, whatever, as long as their political views were close to mine. Maybe not a Scientologist though.

John McCain's middle name is John. His first name is actually Dynamite.

You sure seem to like making broad assumptions about me.

Are you excusing racism because we aren't as bad as other countries? Really?

It's Diane.

I know. I looked it up. lol

But my point is, I HAD to look it up. Ask Joe Schmo on the street what each candidates middle name is, and I guarantee that the majority of them will only know Obama's.

media's soft handing Obama

I just don't see this. But then again, I tend not to listen to that much of what the media has to say. :|
