Mercury News

San Jose police killed a Rottweiler that attacked a animal control
officer and a neighbor and went after an officer Tuesday at 11:23
a.m., according to police reports.

An officer called to deal with a dangerous animal arrived at the
intersection of Melbourne Boulevard and Jeanne Avenue , near the
intersection of Highway 101 and Interstate 280, shortly after the dog
attacked an animal control officer, severely injuring the officer's
arm.

The dog advanced toward the police officer, who killed him, police
said. It's unclear how the officer killed the dog.

But, according to police reports, it was only after the dog was dead
a that a third person attacked by the Rottweiler came forward. A man
approached the officer and revealed an arm injuring, saying the dog
had bitten him as well.

S.J. police shoot Rottweiler that attacks two people
By Leslie Griffy
Mercury News
One dog was shot and two people were injured after San Jose police responded to calls that two Rottweilers were terrorizing a neighborhood near the intersection of Highway 101 and Interstate 280 on Tuesday morning.

Officer Enrique Garcia said a police officer and an animal control officer went to investigate the reports when, near the intersection of Melbourne Boulevard and Jeanne Avenue, one of the dogs attacked the animal control worker.

The worker's arm was severely injured. The dog then turned to the officer. As the Rottweiler charged the officer, the officer fired his gun once in warning, Garcia said. Still the dog came on.

The officer then lowered his gun and shot the dog once, wounding the animal.

The second dog ran away, Garcia said.

Moments after the first dog was shot, a man who lives in the neighborhood approached officials, saying he had been attacked by the dogs about 20 minutes before police arrived.

The man's arm was also injured, Garcia said.

Police tracked down the owner of the dogs and animal control officers working on the case will give the Santa Clara County District Attorney's office their investigation report once it is complete.

It will be up to the District Attorney's office to decide if charges will be filed.
