Phoenix Police officers shot and killed a pit bull this morning when authorities say the pit bull was attacking another dog and endangering the lives of a grandmother and her grandson.
Nobody was hurt but police believe the other dog, a retriever mix, sustained numerous injuries.
The grandmother was at her home on the 2600 block of Filmore Street dog-sitting her daughter's pit bull when a fight erupted in the backyard between the pit bull and the grandmother's 15-year-old retriever mix, Phoenix Police. Lt. Lisa Messina said.
The dogs came too close to the homeowner's one-year-old grandson, so she called police. She also stabbed the pit bull attempting to free the retriever from the pit bull's bite. Police arrived soon after the pit bull was stabbed.
Once the retriever was free, Messina said officers fired. When the pit bull charged the homeowner and the retriever again, Messina said officers fired again and killed the pit bull.
"It's unfortunate, but we're glad nobody was hurt," Messina said
