Shreveport police shot a loose pit bull at least two times about 1:30 p.m. today in the city’s Highland neighborhood after it reportedly chased a mail carrier in the 400 block of Merrick Street.
The adult female dog was shot in front of its owner's home after it reportedly charged police officers. It fell down but eventually would get up and two more shots were fired as the dog ran down an alley between Merrick and College streets. Another chase ensued before it was finally caught.
Clara Brown, whose grandson owns the dog, said that it usually is not outside and that she had never seen it try to attack a person.
