What organizations help fight BSL?

Pits in the news and info on Breed Specific Legislation.

Does anyone have a list of organizations/groups that actively help fight BSL?

Maureen, one of our new members, is the executive director of the ADOA. I'm sure she can answer any questions you have about it!

Do any of the large organizations like AKC donate money to fight BSL? Or is it only the ones who are dedicated solely to it?

The ADOA has alot of members who work against BSL. The NAIA also has some excellant information available.

In my state, we have MassFed ( Massachusetts Federation of Dog Clubs ) and some states are working to get statewide "federations" in place to be more effective.

I am a member of the ADOA, MassFed, my local kennel club, and my parent breed club. I have been involved in fighting BSL, and have worked on and helped write several ordinances in my state.

If anyone would like any information, I have copies of great working dangerous dog ordinances, letters to send out to your legislators, and other info. Please feel free to contact me anytime. Maureen from the ADOA is also a great resource, as well as the NAIA website.

One thing I have experienced that is most difficult is getting people involved. Alot have the attitude that " it does not involve me, I do not own those breeds". The latest trend of mandatory spay/neuter and AR agendas involve every dog owner, and we all have to work together, I think 2007 is going to be tough year in the BSL arena.

Hey there! I was just wondering if you could email me the copies of the working dangerous dog ordinances you mentioned in the thread about agencies fighting BSL. My rescue wants to start taking on legislation and it would be nice to have a good example. My email is liz@fortheloveofpits.org . Thanks! :)

I'm at work, but when I get home I'll definitely send along. Some of the ordinances are quite large, and I can make a packet to mail out to you with alot more information. We made an outline ( breaks down the key points in a dangerous dog ordinance thats understandable to all) also that has been used widely. I have about 3-4 ordinances I can get to you if you would like me to put a packet together.

Let me know.

in New York, there is the Dog Federation of New York

I'm one of ADOA's regional legislative coordinators, by the way--as well as an ADOA board member. :)
