LANCASTER COUNTY, PA - A district judge has sentenced a 30-year-old Lititz man to 30 days in prison for killing a pit bull.
John Micklo admitted kicking a 9-month-old pit bull named Booger July 23 because the dog had destroyed a roll of toilet paper.
The kick, which broke the dog’s right femur and dislocated its right hip, led to the animal being euthanized.
Keith Mohler, a humane officer for Farm Sanctuary of Pennsylvania, launched an investigation into the incident after a veterinarian with Peaceable Kingdom Animal Hospital in Ephrata contacted him.
The veterinarian had treated Booger and recommended the dog be euthanized because of extensive injuries.
During his investigation, Mohler said he determined Micklo returned to his mobile home at 200 W. Brubaker Road shortly after 11:30 p.m. on July 23 and discovered the destroyed toilet paper.
Micklo then kicked the dog, Mohler said.
Heather Delong, Micklo’s girlfriend, and her 15-year-old son did not see the kick but found the dog after it has been injured, Mohler said.
