LANSING, Kan. -- A 4-year-boy survived a dog attack Thursday afternoon, KMBC's Martin Augustine reported.
Zachary Thomas and his sister had just come outside of their grandmother's townhouse when a pit bull mix ran out of its owner's home and up to the 4-year-old.
Grandmother Wilma Adams ran over to pull the dog away, which she said was as tall as her grandson.
"I'm screaming at the kids, 'Did that dog bite you?'" Adams said. "I pulled my hand away from Zachary and it's covered in blood, and I freaked."
"I got bit by a dog," the 4-year-old told Augustine.
The boy suffered several puncture wounds to his head, neck and back, but he is expected to recover.
Police said the dog's owner was cited for seven violations. The dog will be quarantined for 10 days.
The dog's owner had no comment.
