OMAHA, Neb. -- As a possible pit bull ban is being debated for Omaha, owners and advocates for the dogs have gathered to paint a different picture of their pets.

The activists gathered outside the Civic Center Tuesday to show how nice pit bulls can be and how they should not all be viewed as vicious animals.

"You raise your dog right, you train him right and you treat your dog with respect; your dog is going to respect you back. And I feel that if you do all those steps, you're going to have a great dog. And that goes for any dog, not just pits,” pit bull owner Tara Burmoot said.

The group said that pit bulls shouldn’t be singled out as vicious animals.

City officials said that the mayor was briefed by his pit bull committee Tuesday regarding the options being considered for the dangerous dog ordinance.

Once the mayor picks the option he feels is best, officials said that the measure will be sent to the City Council for consideration.
