Dog shot by police

NEWTON —

On Sunday morning, police were called to the 500 block of North Plum for the report of a report of a vicious dog that had attacked a cat. When the officers arrived, they were told dogs had attacked a person although that proved later not to be true, said Lt. Eric Murphy of the Newton Police Department.

One of the dogs charged at the officers, and an officer shot the dog. The other dog ran off but was captured later.

The person who was caring for the dogs was cited for having the dogs at large.
