GREENWOOD, Ark. -- The city of Greenwood soon will be discussing proposed changes to it's pet ordinance. One provision calls for the ban of all pit bulls within city limits.
Heath Hixson lives in Fort Smith and owns Charter, a three-year-old pit bull. He said a ban would unfairly target good pet-owners and good-dogs.
"Charter is very loyal, fun loving and a good listener. He's a good dog, I wouldn't have anything else," said Hixson. "If you treat them right and take care of them and are a responsible pet-owner you shouldn't have any problems with a pit bull."
Hixson encourages all dog owners to have their companion socialized to people, including children, and other pets at an early age.
He allows Charter around his eight-month-old son on occasion and said there has never been a problem.
"Pit bulls are actually known to be good with kids and good with people, but I would never leave my son unattended with any dog or any animal," he said.
