OMAHA, Neb. -- An Omaha police officer was treated for dog bite wounds after being attacked by a pit bull Thursday evening.
The officer responded to a complaint about fireworks at a home near 40th and Vinton.
Police said the pit bull ran out of the house and bit the officer on the arm. The officer said he managed to get away from the dog, but the dog charged him again.
That's when the officer shot and killed the pit bull.
The animal's owner was cited for harboring a dangerous animal and other pet violations. The officer drove himself to Methodist Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
This incident marked the third pit bull attack in Omaha in two days.
