Officer forced to shoot aggressive dog

A Yakima police officer fatally shot a dog that charged him in the 400 block of South Naches Avenue on Thursday morning, authorities said.

Police said officers responded about 10 a.m. to a call of an aggressive dog chasing pedestrians in the South Naches Avenue neighborhood.

As the officer approached, the unchained dog turned and ran at him, prompting the officer to fire several rounds from his duty pistol, police said.

It was the latest in a series of four dog attacks reported this week in Yakima.
