CARBONDALE, IL -- An American bulldog will be quarantined for 10 days after biting a 3-year-old girl Thursday evening at a residence at 609 Skyline Drive in Carbondale.
The dog also bit its owner, Kipp Waller, when he tried to pull the dog off the girl. The girl had been visiting the residence with her parents, who took her to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment. She was admitted because of the extent of the wounds, Lt. Don Priddy of the Carbondale Police Department said.
Waller, who suffered bite wounds over his mouth and chin, also planned to seek treatment in the emergency room.
Some of Waller's friends or family took the dog to a veterinarian for quarantine, Priddy said.
The call came in at 6:56 p.m. Thursday. The investigation is continuing, Priddy said, to determine whether the dog is properly licensed.
