After many revisions and prolific public comment, the Great Falls City Commission passed a new animal ordinance at its meeting Tuesday night.
The ordinance, which was passed unanimously, requires a multiple-animal permit for any household with more than the maximum of two dogs and two cats. It also mandates that both dogs and cats are registered. Previously, only dogs were required to be registered.
It also requires dog walkers to carry a plastic bag to pick up after their pet, clarifies animal nuisance laws, makes the leash law more strict and sets higher fines for animal offenses when the pet is not neutered or spayed.
The ordinance will take effect on July 1.
